Today at 11:00am, the North Carolina Medical Society (NCMS), in conjunction with the NC Community Health Center Association (NCCHCA) and Centene Corporation (NYSE: CNC), announced the signing of a definitive agreement to collaborate on a patient-focused approach to Medicaid under the reform plan enacted in for North Carolina. Under the agreement, the organization will create a joint venture, Carolina Complete Health, to establish, organize and operate a physician-led health plan to provide Medicaid managed care services in North Carolina. A key feature of the joint venture will be the active participation of physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and Federally Qualified Health Centers in the ownership and governance of the health plan.
The announcement is available online at: http://www.ncmedsoc.org/carolina-complete-health/.
This plan is a first of its kind in the country. The partnership includes two trusted local entities - the NCMS and the NCCHCA - with deep roots in the state’s health care communities. Centene brings expertise with statewide Medicaid networks, a commitment to a patient-centered approach and physician leadership, along with financial strength. The workforce needed to make this plan a success will be drawn from communities right here in North Carolina.
With so much uncertainty over the future of Medicaid in North Carolina, there is naturally a lot of excitement over today’s announcement. The NCMS is prepared to answer questions and has posted a Q&A page for some of those anticipated: http://www.ncmedsoc.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/CCH-QA-1-10-2017.pdf.
There will more developments regarding this plan over the next days, weeks and months and we anticipate quite a bit of media coverage. If you have any questions, please let me know.
