Guidance for Implementing a Crisis Standard of Care for NC


The North Carolina Healthcare Association, NC Institute of Medicine and NC Medical Society are pleased to offer this webinar in the evening to better enable clinician participation.

Participants will gain an understanding of the Crisis Standard of Care for North Carolina, including the recently developed North Carolina Protocol for Allocating Scarce Inpatient Critical Care Resources in a Pandemic. 


Presenters will discuss:

  • Circumstances under which the protocol would be used
  • Guiding principles for development of the protocol
  • Key components of the protocol, including criteria and processes for initial allocation of critical care resources; use of triage teams and review committees; and effective communication with patients and their representatives 

This webinar is appropriate for the following audiences

Health care providers, Administrators, Chief Medical Officers, clinicians and other healthcare professionals whose organizations and/or patients may be affected by the protocol.

PRESENTERS

Joseph A. Govert, MD, Pulmonologist and Professor of Medicine, Duke University School of Medicine

Karen L. Smith, MD, FAAFP, Family Physician

Private Family Physician in rural private practice for 28 years. She is the 2005 past president of the NCAFP and currently serves as delegate to the AAFP. She achieved honor of AAFP 2017 Family Physician of the Year, and is actively engaged with the NCMS in an effort to achieve quality healthcare for all.

Adam Zolotor, MD, DrPH, President and CEO, North Carolina Institute of Medicine
President and CEO of the North Carolina Institute of Medicine and an associate professor of Family Medicine at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. Dr. Zolotor has practiced family medicine in a small-town practice, rural emergency department, county health department, and academic medical center.
