North Carolina Legislative Building, Raleigh

Please consider volunteering to assist with a unique public service/advocacy event to be sponsored by the NC Dermatology Association during the 2017 session of the NC General Assembly. On Wednesday, April 19, we will hold our sixth annual Skin Screening at the Legislature for legislators, their staff members and others visiting the Legislative Building that day.  We will begin at 9:00am and plan to finish by 3:00pm. The screening will again be in the Legislative Building, room 1124/1224.

This event is being conducted as a part of our ongoing advocacy initiatives, and was instrumental in achieving passage of a new law in 2015 prohibiting minors' access to commercial tanning beds in North Carolina. The free screenings will consist of full- or partial-body examinations, sharing skin cancer handouts with information on how to find a dermatologist, and teaching skin self-examinations. This event offers an excellent opportunity to reinforce the message we have been promoting about the dangers of indoor tanning and help strengthen our legislative relations. Additionally, individual meetings with legislators will be scheduled.

We need dermatologists to volunteer to make this skin screening event a success. We realize that it may be difficult to participate for the full day, but please try to support this effort to the extent you can. Residents are welcome and encouraged to participate as well.  A continental breakfast and lunch will be served to volunteers.
